Laminated dough punishes home bakers. A croissant takes three days, a pound of good butter and a dozen decisions.

Then it fails on the things no recipe records: the protein in the flour you actually bought, the 74°F kitchen, the fridge that runs warm, the oven that lies by 25°F, the ten minutes you were late back to the fold.

You do not want to be told to relax and practice. You want the variable.

Both trays came out of an ordinary home oven. The difference is 8°F of dough temperature and 45 minutes of proof. A photograph is enough to tell them apart, which is why the Read starts with your photograph and not with a questionnaire.
